im CUBO: Sheri Avraham

13. March , 17:00 - 10. May , 17:00

Exhibtion at CUBO: Sheri Avraham – 70 Faces of the Tora

In the age of social media, we continuously inscribe ourselves through curated feeds, stories, and highlights. These digital traces become a contemporary sacred scroll a living archive through which we seek recognition, belonging, and knowledge. Our online selves, both self-fashioned and externally imposed, function as modern rituals of interpretation and belie. Within this space of multiplicity, contradiction, and intersectionality, identity unfolds as performance and negotiation.

The work invites viewers to witness and reconsider the many ways we construct, perform, and interpret who we are and how we come to “know” ourselves and others through mediated images.

This work is part of the larger project called Mizrachi Futurism and is the follow up of a research that started during Sheris production residence at Symposion Lindabrunn in 2025.

Mizrachi-Futurism is a speculative aesthetic rooted in the identity category Mizrachim: Jews with familial ties to non-Western countries. Inspired by Afrofuturism, it operates as a cultural-political practice that imagines insurgent futures grounded in Mizrachi histories, diasporic knowledge, hybridity, and anti-colonial critique across art, theory, and performance. Through a Mizrachi and queer lens, this project reflects on fragmented identity, visibility, and belonging.

70 Faces to the Torah presents identity as endlessly interpretable. Borrowing from the Midrashic phrase, “There are seventy faces to the Torah, ” the work proposes that identity, like sacred text, is never singular or fixed, but fluid, layered, and open to infinite readings.

What remains hidden, and what becomes exposed?
